Janet's multi-faceted career has always embraced her creativity and love for
color. She embarked as a clothing designer in her early 20s and started her own
swimwear and sportswear company in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her original designs and
hand dyed fabric blossomed into a clothing company that was distributed across
the United States and exported to Japan, Sweden, Tahiti and the Caribbean.
She received numerous awards and recognition for her trend-setting styles
and tropical infusion of color, even being awarded the Young Entreprenuer
of the Year Award for the State of Hawaii in 1989. She devoted herself for
nine years to the fashion industry and decided to switch her focus as the
demands of running a business with dozens of employees no longer felt
in balance with her happiness and life purpose.
Janet's personal journey led her to simplify her life and move to Santa Cruz
on the central coast of California where she lives with her husband and
daughter. The unique beauty of her new home combined with her love of
drawing and painting prompted her to explore the medium of watercolor.
Soon she was painting expressive landscapes and was a featured artist at
the local Thomas Kinkade Gallery in Pismo Beach, California. Her original
paintings have been featured in several galleries and juried exhibitions,
including the Aquarius IV watercolor show in San Luis Obispo; Divine Equine
juried art exhibit 2009 in Woodside, CA; Los Gatos Art Association Statewide
Open Juried Show 2010; and the Open Studios Art Tour sponsored by the
Cultural Council of Santa Cruz since 2008.
Janet paints in pastel and oil and especially enjoys palette knife oil painting. Since childhood, Janet has loved to draw horses and rode these beautiful creatures whenever possible. She exercised polo ponies for several years and lovingly cared for two horses of her own. She is now focusing her art on this magnificent animal.
